Smooth ground, and nothing else.
The narrowest engine on the planner, and deliberately so: gravel, steps and broken tarmac are not a compromise here, they are the end of the session.
Everything the other engines treat as a preference — surface, smoothness, steps — this one treats as a rule. It routes on sealed, even ground and goes around the rest, which is why a skating route is often longer than the cycling one between the same two points.
Gradient is the second rule. A descent that is a pleasure on a bike is a decision on wheels with no brakes to speak of, so the profile is worth reading in both directions before you commit.
Presets on this engine
- Long distance The profile as calibrated: smooth tarmac, climbs paid for dearly, descents used.
- Flat Avoids elevation at nearly any cost — with no gears, every climb is paid for.
- City Keeps the rhythm: penalises the lights, crossings and traffic that break your stride.
- Smooth surface Skirts setts and cobbles: rideable, but long stretches of vibration.
Read from the router itself — this is the list the planner shows you.
And the switches
Worth checking before you leave
- The descents, and whether you would want to be on them.
- That cycleways are preferred where they exist — the switch is there for it.
- The surface breakdown: one bad kilometre is enough to reroute around.
Questions about this sport
Will it keep me off gravel?
Yes — the engine only routes on sealed, even surfaces, and the surface breakdown shows what it used.
Can I prefer cycleways?
Yes. Staying on cycleways is one of the switches, and on this engine it is usually the one you want on.
