The MTB engine is the one most willing to leave the road: it prefers trails and tracks and accepts ground the other engines route around. What you steer is how far it will go — the off-road preference and the climb penalties are the difference between a long loop with a fireroad climb and a short one that goes straight up.
Descent matters as much as ascent here and it is on the same profile. A route with 900 metres of climbing spread over four hours reads very differently from the same 900 dropped into two descents.
Presets on this engine
- Trail Maximum off-road: seeks trails and single-track.
- Enduro Even more technical: rough single-track too, ignores surface smoothness.
- Mixed Unpaved and gravel roads in balance, the default behaviour.
- Flow Prefers smooth surfaces and roads, to cover distance.

- Where the descents fall — the profile shows their shape, not just their total.
- How much of the climbing is on a track you can actually pedal.
- That the route has an escape: it is the sport where legs run out furthest from the car.
Questions about this sport
Does it plan singletrack?
It routes on paths and tracks where the map has them, weighted by your off-road preference. What it cannot do is guarantee a trail is rideable — the surface and difficulty data it shows you is the honest basis for that call.
Can I take the route out of signal?
Yes. Export the GPX to a bike computer or watch; the saved route also opens on the phone, and the planner installs as an app.
